Large File Repository (LFR)
The LFR is a background VMS service that serves as the repository for all videos, images, and related data.
Each item in the LFR is allocated a Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) - a textual representation of a 128-bit number that provides unique access back to the item in question.
Typical examples of a UUIDs are:
11d544d7-06f7-42b3-83d3-6b9342518606
bce6e7c6-d882-45a2-b18f-36d7ff9b0a3a
These are, for all practical purposes, impossible to guess and consequently offer a very secure means of retrieving data without the requirement for usernames and passwords. Although the probability that a UUID will be duplicated is non-zero, it is close enough to zero to be negligible, and unless you know the UUID of an item there is less than a one in 3.4 x 1038 chance of correctly guessing it. Furthermore, because the search space is so vast, successfully guessing any UUID on the system is also a practical impossibility.
